This is a lovely walk, starting at Christopher Wren’s masterpiece, St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Not very far from St Paul’s we stop at a spot from where four of Christopher Wren’s churches can be seen all at once! We continue along Cheapside and here we see St Mary-le-Bow, one of London’s most famous churches, still surrounded by medieval lanes, such as Bow Lane.
Sir Christopher Wren put all the beauty of his churches in his steeples and this is very obvious on this particular walk, when we can compare so many of them.
From Cheapside we enter Bank and here we look at the Lord Mayor’s home, the
Mansion House, the Bank of England and the Royal Exchange.
It is at Bank that we stop for lunch in the comfortable and inexpensive Weatherspoons Pub, situated opposite the Victorian Leadenhall Market, which hides its secrets.
After lunch we continue to the church of St Stephen’s Walbrook, a most
beautiful church with a dome. We also come across one of Wren’s churches that
has remained almost untouched,
St Mary Abchurch, with its painted dome, followed by St Clements's Eastcheap. From here we walk to where Harrods started business and then on to St Margaret’s Pattens church.
The walk finishes at Monument where we can sit down for a well earned cup of tea.
Bus and Underground are very near.
